Fairlead Value is a valuation tool for marine surveyors and yacht brokers. This page says,
briefly, what we keep and why. Each More detail opens for the specifics.
What we keep
Your account: your email address, and your name if you gave one. Any comment you send us,
with the kind of browser it came from (such as “Safari 26 on macOS”). A
record of any tip you leave. Counts of how the tool is used, and a note of which paid-for
features each account uses, so misuse can be spotted.
Your saved valuations are kept for you alone. They are stored on our server,
with their documents and photographs, so that you can open them from any computer. Nothing in
the tool lets anyone else open them, and we do not read them.
More detail
- Saved valuations. While you are signed in, a worksheet is saved to your
account as you work, drafts included: the vessel, your comparables and listings, your
adjustments and settings, your firm details and any photographs. The finished document is
stored beside it each time you calculate. Only a request signed in as you can list, open,
copy or delete them. We see one only if you choose to send it to us with a comment, or to
share it by link.
- Usage counts. When you calculate a report we record that one was made,
when, in which mode, on what kind of device, roughly where (country, region and city),
how long the worksheet took, and the account that made it. No vessel, comparable, client,
price or value goes into these counts.
- Paid-for features. Reading a file or a listing, asking the built-in
guide, saving a PDF and sending a document to your phone are each noted against your
account, with an estimate of what it cost. The note holds nothing you sent or received.
An account that abuses the service can be suspended.
- Tips. We record that a tip was paid, when, and by which account. We never
record the amount.
- In your own browser. Your preferences, your firm details and your
sign-in are kept in your browser so you do not retype them. Clearing this site’s
data in your browser removes them.
What we do not do
No advertising, no tracking scripts, and nothing about you is sold. We do not store your IP
address. Card and payment details never reach us.
The services that help run the tool
A few outside services are used, each only to run a feature you use: reading a listing or a file, or asking the built-in guide
(Anthropic); leaving a tip (Stripe); your account and saved valuations (Netlify, our host);
product emails (Mailchimp). Pages also load typefaces and code libraries from Google and
Cloudflare.
More detail
- Reading a file or a listing. The file you drop, or the text of the
listing page, is sent to Anthropic to be read, and the fields come back. We do not store
the file, the page or the text. A listing address you paste goes to the service that
fetches the page.
- Asking the built-in guide. Your question goes to Anthropic with a
summary of the worksheet, which includes the finished analysis and your firm details
once a report has been calculated. The conversation is not stored by us.
- Sharing a document by link. The whole document is stored on our server
behind an address that cannot be guessed. Anyone holding the link can open it until it
expires; there is no password. Treat a share as a copy you have put somewhere.
- Saving a PDF. The document is sent to our server to be printed, and the
PDF is deleted when it is downloaded.
- Leaving a tip. The payment page is Stripe’s. It receives a
reference for the valuation and nothing else of yours.
- Product emails. Mailchimp is given your email address, your name if you
gave one, when your account was created, and whether you work as a surveyor or a broker,
so an email can be addressed to you and suit your work.
- Typefaces and code libraries. Google and Cloudflare serve these on every
page, so they see your IP address and browser, as any website you visit does.
- To limit abuse, a scrambled, one-way fingerprint of your IP address is
kept with some requests. The address itself is not.
Emails
An account comes with occasional product emails. Every one has an unsubscribe link, and using
it stops them; you can go on using the tool.
Cookies
None until you sign in, then one, to keep you signed in.
How long we keep it
Until you delete it, or ask us to.
More detail
- Nothing expires by itself, with two exceptions. A document shared by
link lasts for the time its sharer chose, from one hour to seven days. A PDF that was
never downloaded is cleared after an hour or so.
- A shared link is cleared once it expires, whether or not anyone opens
it: expired links are removed as new ones are made and as links are opened.
- Everything else (your saved valuations, your account, the usage counts,
comments and the record of tips) is kept until you delete it or ask us to.
Removing your data
Delete any valuation from My valuations;
its document and photographs go with it. Clear this site’s data in your browser to remove
what is kept there. For anything else, including your account, ask through
Send feedback in the worksheet and we will remove it.
If anything on this page does not match what the tool does, tell us through
